Recovery - Performance - Longevity
Red light therapy involves having low-power red light wavelengths emitted directly through the skin. At RPL, we use a Red Light Bed, similar in appearance to a tanning bed, but using different wavelengths of light energy. Red light can be absorbed into the skin to a depth of about eight to 10 millimeters, and has shown positive effects on cellular energy processes, and certain nervous system and metabolic processes. This process cannot be felt, isn’t painful and doesn’t produce any heat.
You may have heard of red light therapy by other names, which include:
- photobiomodulation (PBM)
- low level light therapy (LLLT)
- soft laser therapy
- cold laser therapy
- biostimulation
- photonic stimulation
- low-power laser therapy (LPLT)
Even though the western medical world seeks additional studies with regard to the efficacy of red light treatment, strong evidence supports its health and wellness benefits. Many have used it successfully as a therapy for a variety of skin issues, improved circulation and better immune function.
Here’s a partial list of the uses of red light therapy:
- Helps rejuvenate and smooth the skin
- Promotes production of collagen
- Helps to repair sun damage.
- Stimulates the lymphatic system for potentially improved detoxification.
- Decreases inflammation in the skin.
- Helps fade scars and stretch marks.
- Stimulates hair growth
- Aids healing of slow-healing wounds.
- Can prevent recurring cold sores, or herpes simplex.
- Helpful in reducing symptoms from carpal tunnel syndrome.
- Reduce eczema, rosacea and acne.
- Soothes minor aches and pains
Although there is still controversy over red light in the context of certain medical treatments, there are virtually no known adverse side effects and, instead, we see a growing list of benefits experienced by its users. Red light therapy has shown promise for treating symptoms osteoarthritis, joint pain due to aging, side effects caused by cancer treatments like chemotherapy or radiation, chronic muscular pain, neurological damage, and tissue damage.
